Spider Vein Sclerotherapy

Small veins that are superficial (on the surface of the skin) and are red or purple in color are known as spider veins. Varicose veins are larger and bluish or greenish in color. These are the visible clues to vein disease.

Maintaining normal weight, active lifestyle with daily exercise and wearing compression stockings are great preventative measures. Unfortunately, due to heredity, up to a third of the U.S. population has a predisposition for developing varicose and spider veins.

Spider veins are treated using sclerotherapy injections of a substance that causes the veins to shrink.  A typical session consists of several injections over a 15 minute appointment.   The treatments are virtually painless.   Bruising can occur after a session so plan these well before you intend to show off your legs, at least several months.

If you have signs of the larger varicose veins, you may need to have these veins treated first so that your spider vein treatment will last.
